Paper business cards kept failing at events. People ran out, cards got lost in tote bags, and the follow-up that actually mattered, a LinkedIn connection, depended on a prospect remembering to search for your name later. Digital card tools exist, but they run about $5 per person, per month. Across two brands, that's a real line item for what's essentially a contact page.

So I built DigiCard, a standalone web app that lets any Sojern or RateGain employee publish a branded digital business card in about two minutes. No app store, no design skills, and no request to my team.

The key decision was splitting one card into two views.

  • My Card is what you pull up to share. The QR code sits at the top, with a Share Contact button for AirDrop or Messages. It saves to your phone's Home Screen with its own icon, so it opens like a native app.
  • Contact Page is what the prospect sees after scanning. It leads with a one-tap Connect on LinkedIn button, with Save to Contacts as the secondary action. At events, LinkedIn is where the relationship continues, so that's the primary button.

Built to run without me. Employees pick a Sojern or RateGain template, and the brand, colors, and company name lock to that template. They toggle on only the fields they want: headshot, headline, phone, Calendly, and address. Signup is limited to company email domains. There are no passwords to manage. Card Lookup emails a secure edit link whenever someone needs to make a change. People can also create separate cards for a specific event or brand, each with its own link.

For the cases self-serve can't solve, I built a back-end admin portal. From there I manage users directly and can send anyone an edit link when they need one.

Rollout. DigiCard ran as a beta first, and tester feedback shaped what launched. It opened to every Sojern and RateGain employee on July 15, 2026.

Results: Dozens of cards published since launch, about two minutes from start to a published card, and no per-seat software cost. Comparable tools charge roughly $5 per person, per month.

Two views | My Card is what you share; the Contact Page is what prospects see, led by one-tap LinkedIn connection
Templates | One app, two brands, with templates that lock to each brand
Home Screen | Saved to the Home Screen, it opens like a native app
